See Photos - This Scottish Bagpipe Chanter Kit has been specially produced to introduce and give a newcomer to the world of bagpipes the essential skills and knowledge necessary to start playing. The practice chanter is an instrument in its own right which when played produces the same notes as those produced on a bagpipe chanter. The correct fingering procedures must be learned at the outset and practiced slowly. For obvious reasons it is much easier to practice at one's own pace with a practice chanter and that is why you will find all top players have started their playing career on the chanter before taking up the bagpipes. The method and content of the tuition has been devised by the late Captain John MacLellan, MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire), former director of the Army School of Piping at Edinburgh Castle and possibly the best known of all bagpipe instructors. A key factor of this tuition is that at the outset a knowledge of music is not essential.
