I used to own a soup company and lived in a BIG RED HOUSE. From the moment I had laid eyes on this house, I loved it. It was where I raised my kids, where I started my soup business, and where lots of glorious memories were made. When I was searching for a name for my business, calling it BIG RED HOUSE felt perfect. Closing down my soup business was a difficult and emotional decision. That business was sort of my 4th child. I was happy the name was an excellent fit for my next venture: a kitchen products company.

Have you ever picked up something hot with oven mitts on and felt like you had no heat protection at all? For many years, we had a soup business and spent countless hours in the kitchen making huge pots of soup. A great pair of oven mitts was essential. After we shut our doors, we started thinking about what we wanted to do next and went with what was close to home. Not knowing specifics about the materials, we researched and found that cloth provides maximum heat protection (as opposed to just silicone), and vertical silicone stripes provide both a secure grip and an extra layer of protection. Our oven mitts are heat resistant up to 480 degrees providing some of the highest heat protection on the market. Our mitts are both functional and stylish. They are machine washable and have loops for easy storage.We now offer them in a rainbow of colors and even have matching potholders.

Have you ever bent down while cooking and had your phone fall out of your apron pocket? That was something that always used to bother me. I learned how physical cooking can be and how essential a comfortable, protective apron is. Many times I bent over only to have my phone drop out of the front pocket of my apron. One of the key features of our apron is a special phone pocket with a snap so your phone stays secure and doesn't end up in your food or on the floor. We also took into consideration the ease getting the apron on and off. I found it annoying to readjust the neck strap each time I put my apron on or took it off. In addition to looking cool with metal grommets, we hope you find the snaps easier to manage than a buckle. Finally, many aprons we used did not have a place to hold our long handled spoons. We added 2, long, narrow pockets ideal for barbecue tools or other long-handled items. We also added a small, narrow pocket for a pen or food thermometer.
Ideas
We marry the ideas of form and function. They truly go hand in hand. If something functions well but it’s not pretty, we wouldn’t want to buy it.
Our products stem from our passions. We are avid cooks and all the things we have created have stemmed from our own needs and not being able to find the exact product we wanted in the marketplace.
We are always looking for that moment when we realize "This product would be so much better if it only FEATURE!". That's when the fun begins!
Design
After we come up with a rough design, we source several manufacturers to create a prototype for us. When we have several prototypes, we look at the quality of the materials, cost, function and other factors that will ultimately effect our end user (you :-).
We make sure the product functions as we hoped it would, that it has solved our initial problem that we set out to fix in the first place and that it holds up seamlessly after many uses.
Fairness
We strive for everyone in in our supply chain - from manufacturer to consumer - to feel like they’re getting a fair piece of the pie. We never look to over charge for our products.
